ALL ENGL 2311 CLASSES: EXAM II

Exam II is scheduled for Tuesday, 3/25/08 for the class
that meets on TT, and it is scheduled for Wednesday,
3/26/08, for the classes that meet on MW and Wednesday night.
Bring a blue scan sheet and a #2 pencil.
Here are some sample questions to give you an
idea of how the questions may be written. These
exact questions may or may not be on the test.

1. If you enclose any other document with your
letter, you indicate this enclosure one line below
the signature. A. T; B. F; C. if the document is
important; D. only if you want to.

2. If you are writing an Arguable Claims letter,
you should use the ____. A. direct pattern;
B. the indirect patters; C. either of these;
D. neither of these.

3. In the Modified Block Letter, you signature

of the letter; D. any of these three places.

4. Any time that you use a list in a letter, you

12. You will be given two visuals to evaluate to
see if they are distorted. You can do this by knowing
what is involved in drawing charts and graphs.
Study the instructions in the visuals exercises.

13. I will take samples of these visuals from the text book,
so you can study the ones in the book. You must precisely
identify them by writing the kind of visual. In other words,
you cannot say "This is a chart." Be able to identify these:
a. a Gant Chart; b. a flow chart; c. an organizational chart;
d. an exploded diagram; e. clip art; e. a simple bar graph;
f. a multiple bar graph; g. horizontal and
verticle bar graphs; h. a complex table; i. a deviation graph;
j. a pie chart; k. a simple line graph; l. a multiple line graph.
You can find all of these in Chapter 14.

15. You will also have to type a brief letter,
so practice by typing the seven parts of the letter.
We also discussed two organizing patterns (page 420)
(good news [direct pattern], bad news [indiect pattern], and
the routine claim letter [direct pattern]. You will have
to use the correct type of letter and format and
spacing (pages 414-415)for the situation that I present
on the test.

As usual 60-70 multiple choice questions will also be on
the test.
