you know how to draw the visuals before you come
to class.

I will sent it to you as an attachment. If you
were absent on 10/03/07, you must come to my
office to get the handout.
3. Begin studying for Exam II which will

scheduled on 10/17/07.
4. Create and type at least three multiple choice

Using all the basic parts of a business
letter, type a business letter to Mr. Dell
Ross, Human Resources at R & J Manufacturing
asking him if the company will have any
internships in summer 2008. Use your name
and address and invent an address for the
company. In the first paragraph, introduce
yourself by giving your name, student status,
and major plus any other information you
may wish to add. In the second paragraph,
state your career interests so that he can
see if an internship will be available in your
area of interest.Close with a Good Will paragraph.
Choose either letter style on pages 414 or 415.
PROCESS:
First, brainstorm ideas for the letter
before you start writing.
Next,type and print a draft and make hand-written
corrections on the printed draft.
Third, make the corrections on the screen and
print a final copy. Hand in both copies plus the
brainstorm, with the final copy stapled
on the top, the draft second, and brainstorm last.

Your third test, which will be the writing test covering the blue handout, is scheduled as follows: The M-W class will test on Wednesday, May 2; the T-Th class will test on Thursday, May 3 (which happens to be the National Day of Prayer); and the Wednesday night class will test on Wednesday night, May 2. Wednesday, May 2, is the last class day for the MW class and for the W 6 PM class. Thursday, May 3, is the last class day for the TT classes.

ON YOUR TEST COVERING THE BLUE HANDOUT, you will have a series of sentences. Each sentence will contain from one to four errors of the type that we have studied in the blue handout. The sentences will be similar to the sentences on pages 17 and 18 in the blue handout.

ALL CLASSES: REFER TO THE CHERRY-COLORED FIRST DAY HANDOUT TO DETERMINE YOUR EXAM DATE AND TIME.

(3) By now you should have read your research articles and gathered ideas from them. Have an outline of your topic. We will talk about writing the complete paper, but you MUST have your outline prepared.You have two weeks to write the final copy.

(1) Read you research articles and find information that is related from the different articles. Keep notes on the information and the different articles that provide the information. You should do this on a separtate sheet of paper OR on note cards. This will be the beginning of your research outline and consists of steps one and two of brainstorming.
(2) Read text pages 269-273, beginning with Avoid Imprecise Wording. TYPE Exercise 16 on page 273.
(3) In the blue handout, read and complete the exercise on page 11, I. SPECIFIC WORDS. You can write the exercise on the blue handout.
(4) Present your Process Paper if you are prepared.

(1)Follow the same assignment as the day classes on April 2 and 3 EXCEPT find, underline, and correct the errors in ALL twenty-three sentences beginning on Page 8 of the blue handout.
(2) Bring at least five research articles and summaries on the topic that you have selected.

Day Classes Monday April 2 & Tuesday April 3

(1) On page 278, read starting with "Avoid an Overly Informal Tone" to page 285.
(2) On the bottom of Page 5 of the blue handout, write 10 current idioms or slang terms; do not use any that are listed on Page 5.
(3)Read the top of blue handout Page 6 "Editing for Clarity" and then read Page 7 "Reference of Pronouns." OMIT EXERCISE 1, TEXT PAGE 246. On the bottom of page 6, in the Exercises for Writing For Clarity,correct only sentences 2, 3, 4, 5, 7.
(4) On Page 8, correct the errors in at least the first fifteen sentences. These are the types of errors that we have covered in the first seven pages of this blue handout. Underline any errors in the sentence; then write a corrected sentence on the handout. These sentences are similar to the sentences that you will have on the test.
(5) Continue looking for research articles. You must bring at least five to our next class.
