1. Learn these nine terms and definitions:
(1) Abstract--something ideal; intangible; an idea, a
principle or a standard.
(2)Concrete--can be experienced by the senses;
(3)Objective--factual; contains no personal opinion bias
or opinion.
(4)Subjective--words influenced by personal opinion or bias.
(5)Denotation--a dictionary meaning of a word
(6)Connotation--a slang meaning given to a word; an
emotional response to the slang meaning of a word.
(7)Idiom--a word or words with a diffeend meaning from
the denotation.
(8)Sensory--details which apapeal to the senses.
(9)Image--a picture created in the reader's mind, usually
by the sensory detail.
2. Remember that you have a test tonight covering the
handout on writing. We will have class after the last person
has completed the test.
