2. Read text pages 271-273:"Be Specific and
Concrete." TYPE AND CORRECT THESE SENTENCES
BY GIVING SPECIFIC DETAIL WHERE NEEDED:
a. We need some extra lumber to complete the
house frame by sometime this afternoon.
b. Some employees requested to be off for
several days sometime next month. C. Some
problem caused the projet to be delayed for
several hours.D. Before too long, somebody
has to do some repairs on the building.
3. Have a tentative outline for your research
paper. TYPE YOUR TENTATIVE OUTLINE ON THE
SAME PAGE THAT YOU TYPE THE SENTENCES WITH
SPECIFIC DETAIL.

1.On text page 761, read "Faulty Parallelism." On
page 15 of the blue handout, complete the first seven
sentences of the Exercise on Parallelism. If you
don't understand parallelism, Google "parallelism" and
click on 'owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/grammar'
2. Prepare a rough outline for your research paper.
Use the brainstorming technique where you put together
similar ideas from different articles. This is your first
step towards writing an outline and preparing a thesis
statement concerning your research paper.

Wednesday, 11/14, 6 PM

1. Have at least five research articles read,
underlined, and summarized. Bring all research articles
to class today.
2. On text page 257, read "Avoid Excessive Prepositions."
On page 10 of the blue handout, complete the two
exercises by following the directions and writing
the answers on the blue handout.
3. Read text page 259, read "Make Negatives Positives."
On pages 13-14 of the blue handout, read IV. "Negatives."
On pages 14-15 of the blue handout, complete the
exercise on nagatives.

1. Have at least five research articles read,
underlined, and summarized. Bring all research articles
to class today.

Because we should concentrate on the research and
the blue handout, you will not have to write a
memorandum or a letter of application on another
topic. WRITE A CORRECTED COPY OF THE HARD HAT MEMO
AND THE LETTER OF APPLICATION FOR A PART - TIME
COLLEGE STUDENT JOB. NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY,
NOVEMBER 21, HAND IN BOTH THE MARKED COPY AND THE
CORRECTED COPY. I will remove the Process Paper from
the required Portfolio. You should already have
received your corrected interview. Be sure that I
have checked it.

Wednesday, 11/07 and Thursday, 11/08

1. Print and complete the summary sheet for at
least one more research article.

Wednesday, 11/07, 6 P.M.

1. In the blue handout on page 6, complete the ten
sentences under the Exercises for Writing for Clarity:
Underline the error and correct it. Write your corrections
on the handout.
2. Complete the Hard Hat assignment by following the
directions on the handout.
3. Complete the Application Letter assignment by following
the directions on the handout.
4. Find at least one more article (#3) for your research.
By the next class on 11/14, you must have at least five
research articles with the Summary Sheet completed and
ready to hand in.

Monday, 11/05 and Tuesday, 11/-06

1. On page 6 of the blue handout,do sentences 1-8
of the Exercises for Writing for Clarity. Complete
this exercise by writing on the blue handout.
2. On page 8 of the blue handout, follow the
instructions and do sentences 1-12.
3. Complete the Letter of Application assignment
by following the instructions on the handout.

**[FUTURE ASSIGNMENTS: your assignment for the next
class (on Wednesday,11/07 and Thursday, 11/08) will
include having Research Article #3. By the first class
of the following week (on Monday,11/12 and Tuesday,
11/13) you must have at least five research articles with
completed Summary Sheets ready to hand in.
