Monday, 10/29 and Tuesday, 10/30

THE TOPICS THAT ARE LISTED ON THE YELLOW RESEARCH
HANDOUT ARE LIMITED TO ONE PER PERSON. IF YOU HAVE
NOT SIGNED UP FOR YOUR TOPIC, YOU'D BETTER DO THIS
THE NEXT CLASS PERIOD OR BEFORE. I HAD ASKED EVERYONE
TWICE BEFORE TO DO THIS.
1. Using the TC Library Data Bases, find and print
at least one more article (article #2) that relates
to your research topic. Read the article and underline
or highlight information that you think will be useful
in writing your research paper. Complete the Research
Article Summary sheet and staple the sheet on top
of the article. Hand this in the first class period.
If you wish to, you can find and print several articles
at one time and then hand in each article summary when
it is due. [Another article will be due next class period.]
Five articles will be the minimum for your research; you
can use more.
2. Begining on the bottom of text page 283 and concluding
on page 284, read "Legal and Ethical Implications of
Word Choice" and "Using Automated Editing Tools Effectively."
3. On Page 5 of the blue handout, review V. slang.
At the bottom of the list, write four slang words or
expressions that some people may not know. Log on to www.
SlangSite.com and read the four samples on the screen. Next,
at the top where the alphabet is listed, click on the first
letter of your first name and read a few of the examples
of slang that are revealed. Did you know most of them?
4. Read text pages 245 -248 "Editing for Clarity." This
section is not easy to understand. See if you can figure out
each error that is indicated in the examples.
5. On Page 7. in the blue handout, read "Reference of Pronouns."
6. Most of your assignment this weekend emphasizes reading
and understanding. Please read these assigned sections
carefully. Have questions ready for any section that you do not
understand.
